Southern Curl

Hey Curl Friends! Ever wondered where I go to get my curls right?!?

I’ve always been really, REALLY particular about who I allow to work in my hair. Throughout the years I have struggled to find a salon in Atlanta, hell on the East Coast period, that can handle my natural hair. Typically I know within the first 3 minutes if a salon is right for me. If I walk in and the stylist asks me “Is that all of your hair?!?” I know IMMEDIATELY that is NOT the place for me.  Even with the growing popularity of natural salons in the south, “natural” does not always mean healthy.  So even when I was able to find a salon that did not look at the length of my hair as a challenge, their end result was always to add heat to my hair.  In 2014 I finally found a salon in Atlanta that promoted healthy natural hair options, however I left that chair with hair as dry as the desert. I felt so defeated.  How could Atlanta Georgia, one of the natural beauty meccas lack a salon that could handle my hair?

Fast forward to April 2015, when a spontaneous trip to Southern Cali for my very first Deva Cut inspired me to continue looking for my own curly hair haven on my side of the world.  After much research of various southern natural hair bloggers I finally stumbled upon a vlog by Mahogany Knots. In the video Robin Sjoblom was doing a deva cut demonstration on Mahogany Knots and I couldn’t stop watching!  Watching her technique, and seeing the before and after, I knew right away that I wanted to give Robin a shot. I made my first appointment with Robin in the summer of 2015 and I have been a client and a fan ever since. Her passion matches my own, and her patience with me in my moments of heat insanity help to remind me of my ultimate goals.

In 2016 Robin rocked her dream of opening up her very own natural hair salon and named it non other than…Southern Curl! Southern Curl is an all natural hair salon located in West Midtown Atlanta. On Saturday September 16th myself and LaJoy of LaJoy Photography had the pleasure to attend their 1 year anniversary event that they hosted at the salon. The anniversary event did not disappoint. Filled with fun games and giveaways, great food, and curly girls all around the anniversary event was certainly worth attending. I even had the opportunity to catch up with Ceata Lash, the founder of The PuffCuff hair clamp. Ceata attended the event as well as provided guests with demonstrations on how to use the various PuffCuff sizes that are available. In between clients the staff had a great time mixing and mingling with clients who were there just to show their support. I even got in a few quick pictures with Robin, the staff, and some of the other gorgeous curly girls in attendance. I am so proud of Robin, Beth, and all of the staff of Southern Curl! Congrats again guys on all of your success and truly becoming the go to curly hair haven of the south! Xo
