2017 Curls, Kinks & Culture Pop Up Music Festival

On Saturday October 28, 2017 Ayva and I had a chance to visit the 2017 Taaliah Waajid Curls, Kinks, & Culture Event at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta, GA. Although I typically wait until the Annual World Natural Hair Show in Atlanta every April, I wanted to take some time and pop in on this event to see what the fall show had to offer this year.

Although a smaller event than the World Natural Hair show, the Curls, Kinks, & Culture Music Festival did not disappoint. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a welcoming atmosphere, vendors galore, music, dancing, and natural men and women everywhere we turned.  The promotional videos leading up to the event promised us an experience filled with various health and beauty vendors as well as hands-on activities.  I would have to agree that the event did not disappoint and there was more than enough to do for the entire family.

Our very first stop was at the table to visit author Chantia Singleton. Chantia is the creator of “The Little Girl With The Big Hair” series. A few years ago I began to buy Ayva children books that promoted self acceptance and represented her so that she could learn to embrace her curly hair. Chantia had quite a few items to choose from so I wasn’t surprised when Ayva chose her newest book titled “It’s Christmas”. After purchasing a signed copy of the book Ayva got a chance to take a few quick pictures with Chantia!

We also made sure to stop by the table to visit “3 Kings and A Queen” to grab a new pillow for Ayva’s room.  I love the story behind the name of the brand, one in which I believe many mother’s of girls with natural hair can relate to. Head over to 3kingsandaqueenclothing.com to check out that story and shop for other “Respect my Crown” apparel and accessories.

Our last stop of the day was to my favorite table of the event to visit creator of “The Puff Cuff” Ceata Lash and her team.  Although I was rocking an old wash n go to the event, Ayva had her hair in a high ponytail compliments of her Junior size puff cuff. I wanted to be sure I grabbed a Family pack that consists of the original, a junior, 2 minis, and 3 micro sizes.  Using The Puff Cuff on her hair has been super easy and pain free. I no longer worry about her complaining of headaches from rubber bands being too tight, or concern myself with hair breakage. The Puff Cuff is perfect for quick styles and now that I have more sizes I am excited to try a few new styles with them.

Although I can’t wait for the upcoming World Natural Hair Show in Atlanta this April, I can say that I’m a new fan of the Curls, Kinks, & Culture festival and I look forward to next year’s event and learning about all the new vendors who will attend! Be sure to check out the YouTube video (https://youtu.be/u9JnU695d2w) of this year’s event as Ayva and I go through all of the goodies that we got! Xo
